I pick up worms from the sidewalk and put them back in the grass almost daily. I think it's a very good thing to be aware of the little ones amongst us, and more importantly, to care what happens to them. Well done for daring to appear fruitloopish in public! Did I ever tell you of my childhood habit of rescuing dehydrating worms from hot council estate pavements? The passers by saw me as some mini-fruitloop, I'm sure, laid out as I was, with my glass of water and improvised worm pathway of soil leading to the grass. I would not touch aforementioned crispy worms for fear of injuring them - well, not unless they appeared to be in imminent danger from birds or bikes.
